Rush Hour Winter

Rush Hour Concerts and the Driehaus Museum present in partnership
a Winter Family Concert Series

Each week a new theme will introduce young music enthusiasts and their adult companions to basic musical concepts and help them get to know the woodwind family by solving The Mystery of the Missing Musical Clock, choosing a Quintet Idol winner, and playing Where in the World is Quintet Attacca! After the concert, a special treasure hunt will be available for families to explore the Museum.
Saturday, February 25 10:00 AM: The Mystery of the Missing Musical Clock
Kids will help Quintet Attacca solve the mystery by trying to figure which quintet member stole the clock. The program features musical “opposites” of high and low, fast and slow, and soft and loud. Music selections span from American composer Thomas Benjamin to Paul Hindemith of Germany and Astor Piazzolla of Argentina. The quintet will present each musical term as part of a clue to the solution. Who stole the clock? Only the kids can figure it out!
Saturday, March 3 – 10:00 AM : Quintet Idol!
Quintet Idol brings the instruments of the wind quintet to life. Each instrument will perform a selection that features its most interesting qualities. The competitors’ pieces include “Flight of the Bumblebee” (flute), “Maple Leaf Rag” (clarinet), “Under the Earth” (oboe), “Roaring Fork” (horn), and “Danza” (bassoon). Competition will be fierce and may even include a playoff at the end! The program introduces kids to the highlights of each instrument so they will be ready to pick their favorite at the Quintet Idol competition. Who will be the winner? It’s up to the audience to decide.
Saturday, March 10 – 10:00 AM: Where in the World is Quintet Attacca?
Where will Quintet Attacca go on their upcoming world tour? They don’t know, but their creative manager has given them some surprise pieces to play to help them. The audience’s horizons are expanded as they hear music from all over the world, learn about its different characteristics and a little about the countries, too. Music selections span from Scott Joplin of the US to Francaix of France to Justinian Tamasuza of Uganda. Quintet Attacca will provide clues, a colorful world map, and even some costumes to help the audience figure out “Where in the World is Quintet Attacca?”
